Right, like Google would care about a measly few million!
Here are three things that you should know about this book before you buy it.
1. Sure, the title says that it is a book about Adwords, but really it is a complete guide to overhauling your business. Yes, you’ll learn more about the intricacies of how Google works, how to make Adwords work better and how to save physically a ton of frustration in the process. But, more importantly, you’ll be challenged on how you reckon about, plot for and do your business.
2. Perry and Bryan are not huge fans of “Dilbert-Cube” environments (i.e. nameless, mysterious corporations.) So, if you roll that way, prepare to be offended. This book is not for guys that have tens of millions of dollars in their ad budgets and are more worried about promoting their brand than getting sales dollars. This book is a must read for all the millions of businesses out here who need to drive customers to their shops, plants and agencies – now!
3. This is not a get rich quick book. What Perry and Bryan prescribe is a tough look at your business and a clear pathway to get the kinds of customers you want to be the kind of business you want to be. Don’t expect to read this book, buy a link of keywords and have money rolling in tomorrow. Those days are over. But, if you want to capture a sustainable, profitable niche, then this book needs to be in your arsenal.
Here is one thing that troubled me about the book. It frequently changes tenses. Sometimes it’s Perry writing, using “I” and then sometimes is Bryan writing, referring to himself as “I”. It is a bit disconcerting and unclear who is writing, but it hardly detracts from the overall effectiveness.
So, if you’d like to keep some of your hard earned money from Google, and like to see your business become more stable, and make a ton more cash in the process, then read this book.

Before this book, I was a complete AdWords newb. But bear in mind I was not a newb to internet marketing. I was pleased to find that for the most part, the book was full of very excellent information. It is excellent enough to get any novice up and running quickly. But, I did have a few complaints:
1. As another assessor mentioned, here seems to be a problem distinguishing which author is writing at which time. Not that it matters all that much. But it did become confusing more than once.
2. I found the discussion on quality score to be to some extent limited. Maintaining a favorable quality score is something that many adwords advertisers have a problem with. Consider a more thorough discussion of this in the next edition.
3. Finally, this leads me to something that ticked me off more and more as I read the book. I was very disappointed to find that the authors heavily (and I mean heavily) promote products and services within the book that lacked sincerity. For example, the authors promoted their own services (and opt-in lists), friends services, and even services from companies paying them some sort of commission for mentioning them in the book. For the latter, it was not made extremely obvious, but anyone that is in internet marketing could spot this. For example, WordTracker’s url is www.wordtracker.com, not www.wordtracker.info as mentioned in the book. I’m sure the .info was just set up as a means to count referrals to the WordTracker service. To the authors, I would hark back them that writing a book is different than your every day internet marketing efforts. Of course it is a fantastic chance to expose the consultation to your own brands and services, but lets keep in mind that people are really paying to hold this book in their hands. I really found it deceitful that the authors have treated this book like an opt-in list where they attempted to sell sell sell. On a side note, the thing I have learned over the years about internet marketing is here are very few tools you have to really pay for. And that reminds me, don’t even bother with the “supplement” to the book (perrymarshall.com/supplement). It doesn’t offer any quick information or tips. Only more chances to Opt-In, and more chances to buy stuff. I look at it as a wasted chance to provide some real regard to the reader. In the next edition of the book, I would like for the authors to focus on more of the fantastic free tools that are out here, and forget about getting those kickbacks from WordTracker and other companies. If you genuinely like WordTracker, send them to WordTracker.com. Forget about this WordTracker.info nonsense. That’s just stupid. Provide fantastic regard to your readers, and they will like you for it. Entrust me.
Summary: If you shape to read this book, read it for the content and marketing principles that are discussed. Take the website and tools endorsements with a grain of salt.

Alright, well I really have bought the book so here it goes:
This book will walk you through EVERYTHING. It’ll tell you how to research your market, do the initial setup, and of course manage an full campaign. Better yet, he gives you tips on what to do once you get someone to look at your site to increase the chance of them following through with your offer. I cannot urge this book highly enough if you want to get serious about running Adwords campaigns.
And the icing on the cake? Here’s a certificate included for in Adwords credits to get you started – more than what you’ll pay for the book here on Amazon. How can you go ill-treat?

This book should be read not only by people trying to learn about AdWords but also by those interested in narrowing down their market niches. I have spent hundreds of dollars in marketing materials, I hold an MBA degree but I must humbly admit this is the first time I really know my market niche down to the color of their socks.
It is incredible what you can do today with Google Tools and their readily available information, but it takes a book like this to learn and know this powerful source of information and Howie Jacobson does an incredible job at communicating it.

Winning Results with Google AdWords, Second Edition Reviews

The title implies that the book will be a how-to manual getting fantastic results with Google AdWords. Not exactly. It does but provide fantastic nuggets of information and helpful tips as well as fantastic insight into how Google evaluates your AdWords campaigns – especially relative to Quality Score. It is up to date as well, as the strategies presented here are new – and many of them are being echoed elsewhere – such as starting campaigns with relatively few keywords and then expanding to the long tail once your quality scores are high. This is in stark contrast to the ancient way of doing things which involved going after the long tail right out of the starting gate with hundreds of keywords. Your quality score is liable to suffer these days with this ancient approach.
The book is but way too long-winded and provides a lot of extraneous information for the online pusher who is looking to improve their campaigns. If you’re by now familiar with the industry and search in general, I would urge skimming the first two chapters – especially chapter 2 – to find nuggets that would be helpful for what you are trying to do. For example, it is excellent to know just how often a user clicks on a sponsored ad as opposed to a paid listing – on page 22 (Chapter 1) Goodman mentions that Google staff have stated informally that this number can be 15% of the time or higher. Chapter 2 goes into history, which I found to be not so helpful. Chapter 12 was a look to the future which I also didn’t get a whole lot out of. The middle chapters of the book were very excellent, although still too long.
Strengths:
* A lot of fantastic tips
* Insight into how AdWords evaluates you and your campaign (direct quotes from Google spokespeople and inferred info from Google as well)
Weaknesses:
* Too Long and too Long-winded – could do a better job at getting to the point. It takes a while to get through this book.
Overall:
I consider myself an Advanced AdWords advertiser – I found the book very helpful and would urge it for intermediate AdWords users and above. I did learn techniques and approaches that I’ll be able to apply to my online marketing. My only wish was that these nuggets of excellent information could have been accessed in a less lengthy book. Beginning AdWords users will liable find AdWords for Dummies more helpful.

Here are some valuable tidbits for the novice here, but I have to force myself to wade through chapter after chapter to find practical useful info that I did not by now know.

I bought both Adwords for Dummies and the Ultimate Guide to Google Adwords and they are both excellent books but the Dummies guide has proven more useful. First off, the Dummies guide is about 90 pages longer, feels more comprehensive, has more step by step instructions and has many more screen shots than the other guide. What’s more, the Dummies format makes it familiar once you open the cover, so it’s simpler to digest information with familiar icons, tips and warnings throughout, especially if you’re not an expert at this stuff. Secondly, the Google Adwords gift card (which was really for me as it also covered the sign up fee) was fantastic and simple to use. Make sure you apply it to your Adwords account when you sign up or within 15 days of signing up. The Ultimate Guide to Adwords cover says it has fine points on a “Free Google Success Toolkit” ( regard) inside, but I have yet to find it. Looked in the index, intro, front and back covers, kind of irritating.

I reckon a slightly better title for this book would be “Online Marketing with AdWords for Dummies”. I say that because the book goes beyond just AdWords to talk about the peripheral systems involved. Personally, I was after purely AdWords information, so the extra stuff was just something to be ignored and bypassed.
That added notes aside, if you want a VERY thorough walk through AdWords, this book will serve your needs quite well. It is dense, full of very useful information and techniques. The author also includes a fantastic deal of supporting info and tools on a support website, which helps to keep things up-to-date.
All in all, a fantastic investment.

This book is 100% useless. Here is zero insight. All this is is various information gathered from the google pages and putting it in the worst format possible. Every page is watermarked with an annoying “Top Surprise” in large red letters, the desk of contects has no associated page facts, etc. I will only feel a small guilty of this review if I find that the author is a fourth grader who did this book as a class project.

I am an AdWords Nerd! SEO + AdWords is my life, both teaching it and living it as a small business owner.
They say you can’t judge a book by its cover, and this is right for Advanced Google AdWords. Don’t let the word ‘Advanced’ scare you. This is really a very thorough, brilliant treatment of AdWords from soup to nuts. Both basics and advanced. Mr. Geddes clearly knows his stuff –
Some examples. First, broad match. Mr. Geddes clarifies that a broad match for
dog care san francisco
will yield search results not just for these words, but for similar words such as
pet care san francisco
animal boarding bay area
That is a powerful way to get new customers, but also extremely perilous as it can run up your budget, quickly.
Second, the content network. Geddes clarifies the power of the content network to have you reach new venues outside of Google such as blogs, portals, news papers, etc. He also points out how to block nefarious sites like parked domains and error pages.
I will urge this book for people who can take my training in San Francisco at AcademyX, or my online training. And even those who cannot. My only criticism would be, like every other AdWords book out here, Advanced Google AdWords does not place AdWords within the context of your free, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) efforts. But the two should work together for maximum reach.
If you are looking at AdWords, I highly urge this book.
